Multi-Industry Granulation Lines

We specialize in pharmaceutical granulation lines designed to produce tablets and other solid dosage drugs. Our solutions are also essential in other industries like cosmetics, food, chemicals, and nutraceuticals. They’re an integral part of processing products like supplements, veterinary medications, and sugar.

Multi-Industry Granulation Lines

What Is A Granulation Line?

A granulation line refers to a collection of machines and equipment that works together to turn raw powder into granules. This process is called granulation. During granulation, SaintyCo machinery ensures consistent particle size which improves the flow properties of the material. This leads to better handling downstream at tableting or encapsulation stations.

Our granulation lines can have slightly different setups depending on the application. But generally speaking, they’re made up of the following stages: mixing, wet or dry granulation, drying, milling, and final blending.

SaintyCo granulation lines are engineered for diverse industries and use cases. For example, clients use SaintyCo lines to granulate everything from gravy to highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs) like estrogen or digoxin.

Types Of Granulation Line

We manufacture granulation lines that fall into several key categories. Within each category, our machinery can be further configured to meet your specific needs.

Wet Granulation Line
Wet Granulation Line

Uses liquid binders to agglomerate powders for better flow with minimal dust generation.

Dry Granulation Line

Key Stages Of A Granulation Line

Here at SaintyCo, we’re extremely flexible and can configure the perfect granulation line especially for your application. This is a breakdown of the core components our typical lines.

Feeding And Pre-Mixing
Feeding And Pre-Mixing

We offer manual powder loading systems for small-batch production or automatic vacuum feeders for high-volume lines. APIs and excipients are pre-mixed in a blender.

Granulation
Granulation

Either using a binder for wet granulation or roller compaction for dry, the powder is transformed into uniform granules. Twin-screw can be used for both types.

Wet Milling Or Flake Crushing
Wet Milling Or Flake Crushing

To reduce granules to consistent sizes, wet particles pass through an oscillating or cone mill. Dry flakes also known as ribbons are crushed.

Drying
Drying

This step is only applicable to wet granulation lines, where moisture must be removed from granules to ensure their stability. This involves precise temperature control.

Milling
Milling

When dry, our milling modules break down granules into their final particle size, often using a sieve mill or a dry cone mill with integrated dust extraction.

Final Blending
Final Blending

If necessary, active granules can be blended with lubricants or disintegrants at this stage in our V-blender, bin, or double-cone modules before being discharged to the next station.

Top Vs. Bottom Spray

For lines that use fluid bed granulation, we offer both top and bottom spray methods. Our top spray systems are the most commonly used, where a binder is sprayed from above. The bottom spray method is also called Wurster coating. This is frequently used for applying coatings to pellets or particles.

Top Vs. Bottom Spray
Validated CIP Cleaning

Validated CIP Cleaning

All SaintyCo granulation lines adhere to strict hygiene standards as set out by international and industry bodies. Our systems are designed for CIP, WIP, and SIP integration, depending on your needs, with full validation support. Features include self-draining piping, pharma-grade stainless steel contact surfaces, and innovative vertical workflows to optimize cleaning efforts.

Get Full Control Over The Granulation Process

Choose the right level of automation for your granulation line to match your production aims, material properties, budget, and how much control you want over every element of the process.

Semi-Automated Granulation Line

If you’re running a small or medium-scale facility or are restrained by budget, our partially-automated granulation lines offer many advantages.

They automated certain steps like granule drying or mixing, while still allowing manual worker intervention for other stages like feeding or discharge.

Semi-Automated Granulation Line

Our high-end, fully-automated granulation lines incorporate advanced technology with cutting-edge machinery. The result is a fast and efficient workflow with centralized control (via PLC or SCADA).

It’s ideal for mass production and 24/7 processing with minimal supervision. It also reduces the risk of human error.

  • “We began making systematic upgrades to our production line last year, starting with the granulation line. Working with SaintyCo has been a breeze. Their standardized machinery was incredibly easy to integrate to our workflow. We were so impressed with their dry granulation solution that we’ve since upgraded the rest of our line to SaintyCo as well. We look forward to many, many more years working with SaintyCo in this successful partnership.”

  • “SaintyCo’s granulation line is everything we needed. As QA lead I deal with compliance and traceability has been a problem with our previous set up. We’ve gone from handwritten logs and backups to a single source SCADA system which pulls batch data, performance logs, trends etc automatically. Our company just underwent an audit in March and the new granulation line enabled us to meet their data requests more easily than ever before.”

Binder Delivery And Spray Nozzles

How binders are delivered can directly affect the granule uniformity and drying time. It can also change how well the granules are able to be compressed at downstream tablet pressing stations. SaintyCo uses precision-engineered spray nozzles to make sure binders are distributed evenly, regardless of the particular formulation.

You can choose between pneumatic atomizing nozzles (good for finer droplets) or hydraulic spray nozzles (recommended for thicker binder solutions). Our smart systems allow droplet size control, which you can adjust to match the absorption rate of your excipients. This is essential to avoid overwetting.

We also offer full control over spray timing, with pulse-based or mass flow-controlled options. Our granulation lines also feature anti drip valves and clog resistant nozzle designs to make cleaning easier, extend machinery lifetime, and reduce maintenance and downtime. For GMP compliance, our spray modules also include calibrated flow meters as well as validation-ready control logs and repeatable dosing sequences.

Granulation Line Safety Systems

Every component, module, and machine in SaintyCo granulation lines is engineered with the very latest safety features and according to the strictest standards. This built-in safety logic protects both operators and equipment. Each unit includes interlocked access panels which prevents the lid/bowl being opened during cycles where it would be dangerous to do so.

There are multiple emergency stop buttons at various points, depending on the granulation line configuration. They trigger immediate power-down, and you can enable programmable soft-stop modes to prevent batch damage during mid-cycle shutdowns too.

Motors, pumps, and spray lines are monitored by overload sensors. If thresholds are exceeded (whether it’s pressure, vibration, temperature, or current) then the machine shuts down and triggers a diagnostic alert via the HMI. You can also investigate shut downs via the PLC logs which provide audit trails, access restrictions, batch records, and more for 21 CFR Part 11-compliance.

What are your granulation line blender options?

We offer several types of blender integrated to our granulation lines. For example, double-cone, conta-piller, octagonal, and V-style blenders.

How do your granulation lines reduce product loss?

Our granulation lines use a closed system to transfer materials, with dust-free charging and discharging thanks to vacuum feeders.

How much does a granulation line cost?

A granulation line can cost almost as much or as little as you want it to, depending on the spec. If you’d like a quote for your desired granulation line setup, please contact us directly.

What are the key stages of a granulation line?

It begins with mixing APIs and excipients to make a homogenous powder, before being compacted in dry granulation or kneaded with the help of a binder in wet granulation. Then comes drying (if wet granulation) followed by sizing via milling or screening, and final blending before discharge.

What industries are your granulation lines suitable for?

SaintyCo granulation lines are used across multiple industries, primarily the pharmaceutical industry but also food, nutraceutical, chemical manufacturing.
